Open Educational Resources Campaign (OER)
The Order of the Gown seeks to provide an inspiring education for all students. The OER campaign seeks to provide resources for students through assessing the current burden of textbook and academic resource cost and find ways to provide resources to make the Sewanee education more readily available to all students.
The OER Campaign is led by Sofie Behr c'24, Education Resource Chair. OER seeks to re-evaluate the academic cost of attendance and focuses on ways we can decrease the burden of costs for students. This Campaign is partnered with Sewanee’s Open Educational Resources Initiative, which is a multi-year strategic plan implemented with the goal of lowering the cost of required texts for students. This year we have spent a great deal of time gathering information and data from students and faculty regarding current costs of required texts. The second phase of Sewanee’s OER Initiative is to evaluate the data we have gathered, and work with faculty to ensure syllabi are created in a way that maximizes academic rigor while also considering cost barriers for students. As I continue to work alongside the OER Task Force and with the Library and Technology Services Student Advisory Board, my goal is to ensure that students across departments can have their concerns presented and answered for.
"The overarching goal is the reduce the financial burden presented by academic costs of attendance to ensure that no Sewanee student is at a disadvantage."
